A Simple Tag

As I didn't want a clean crisp background I used paint applied with a brayer and paint sponged threw a stencil to give the effect below.
The stamp is by the wonderful Kate Crane.
The die cuts I added were from Sizzix and Tattered Lace, I finished it off using various fibres, ribbons and beads.

Meow

Today I thought I would share a journal page featuring the amazing Crazy Cats designed by Tim Holtz.
I created the background using gesso a little heavily, swirling and giving a textured feel to the page, I then coloured it using Gelatos to follow the flow of the gesso.
I added more interest to the background using embossed wallpapers as stamps and added a swirl of string.

The cats were stamped onto stamping card and coloured using Distress Inks pads and a water brush before being cut out. Once stuck in place I used Washi
tape, a die cut and a piece of wallpaper (BIG) to 'sit' the cats on.
I finished off the page with bits of doodling.

I loved making this page, the colours are so me and as you may know Gelatos are one of my must haves.

Remember You Are Loved

I have started to make a few more cards (yes I did say that!) I had completely gone off making cards but slowly I am coming back.
The one below is simple but I like to think effective. I used an IndigoBlu stamp for the main image then masked it out to stamp the script stamp. I added a black rose to the girls hat to complete the look.
The inside of the card saw self adhesive pearl gems (on a strip and shaped into a heart) finished with a small black button. I stamped the greeting and added a chicken wire die cut from Sizzix to the opposite corner to the heart. I finished off using a journalling pen to edge the card.
I love using black and white, it is timeless and suitable for both sexes.

Sketches in Thyme - January 2016

Time for another scrapbook challenge!
Full details can be found HERE

Above is this weeks sketch challenge over at Sketches in Thyme, below is my interpretation.
I love using autumnal colours and this photo of Jack was the perfect fit. I used a stamp from Stampotique and one of the fabulous Crazy Birds stamps by Ranger. I made a circle of leaves using the Autumn Gatherings Tim Holtz die with Bazzill card stock. I finished the layout off using ribbon, a silk strip and wispy green fibres for my feathered friend!

Helen's Layout

This months challenge can be found HERE

Helen designed these two fabulous pages following the Sketch from the September Sketches in Thyme Challenge.
A very young Helen and David!
It is interesting to see how a different colour range changes the look completely.

20th August Scrap Thursday Part 12

This is the twelfth scrapbook page for my new weekly post Scrap Thursday. I will try and bring new ideas and techniques and revisit old favourites too. If you have any suggestions or requests just let me know and I will do my best to accommodate these.
I usually work in a 12" x 12" format as this allows me more space to experiment and get arty!
I'm sharing this layout of my Mam today and her first 'selfie'.
The background has been made using paint and grunge paste (PaperArtsy) through a stencil (DecoArt) and then coloured with paint (Americana). I used Graphic 45 paper for additional interest.

13th August Scrap Thursday Part 11

This is the eleventh scrapbook page for my new weekly post Scrap Thursday. I will try and bring new ideas and techniques and revisit old favourites too. If you have any suggestions or requests just let me know and I will do my best to accommodate these.
I usually work in a 12" x 12" format as this allows me more space to experiment and get arty!
This week I dug out an old photograph of a very old friend! Leanne introduced my husband and I to each other back in April 1989 and the rest as they say is history!
The layout is 12" x 12". I started by covering a piece of card stock with torn pages from an old book.
Using Grunge Paste and a Dutch DooBadoo mask, I added texture to the middle part of the card.
I diluted Luminarte Silks and brushed over the Grunge Paste.
Building up the colour.
I added silver Gilding Flakes and Stampendous Frantage randomly together.
I added Dylusion sprays to the mix.
I used Tim Holtz Sizzix Dies and coloured the cut outs using Silks and a Smoothie (which is an egg shaped sponge for blending)
Prima flowers and resist canvas pieces were coloured with Dylusion sprays.
Petaloo flowers were coloured with a mix of Dylusions sprays and Luminarte Silks and layered up. After all this I attached it all to the background using a strong glue.
At the moment the fashion is to use very pronounced embellishments and flowers which if you are putting the layout into a box frame is great and works well, however if you are putting your layouts into an album these pronounced items can cause problems. Layouts can get squashed and if metal is used photographs can be dented.

The photograph above shows how what I do with flowers that are deep. I basically cut a hole into the card, add glue to the edge of the hole and push though the bottom of the flower. Once the glue is dry I cut off the excess from the back using a craft knife. This is no way affects the way the flowers look but does help other layouts in the album.
I am really pleased with end result and I hope Leanne will be too!
