Playing with Gelatos

Good Morning!
I'm over at That's Crafty!  today with a great storage idea for those AT Coins that are really popular at the moment, I have also added a few of my coins as some extra inspiration.
Here is a sneaky peek of what to expect!
I have added lots of photographs for a step by step tutorial so I hope it is easy to follow!

Have a great Crafty! weekend.

Meow

I thought I would share a couple of cards and a journal page I made using the Tim Holtz Crazy Cats stamps, I love these quirky stamps, such fun images.
I used a mask and a brick design Washi tape for the above card.
I decided to use colourful watercolour paint colours rather than realistic so staying with the quirky feel of the stamps.
I made the background for the journal page using gesso to give texture, Gelatos and string.

Meow

Today I thought I would share a journal page featuring the amazing Crazy Cats designed by Tim Holtz.
I created the background using gesso a little heavily, swirling and giving a textured feel to the page, I then coloured it using Gelatos to follow the flow of the gesso.
I added more interest to the background using embossed wallpapers as stamps and added a swirl of string.

The cats were stamped onto stamping card and coloured using Distress Inks pads and a water brush before being cut out. Once stuck in place I used Washi
tape, a die cut and a piece of wallpaper (BIG) to 'sit' the cats on.
I finished off the page with bits of doodling.

I loved making this page, the colours are so me and as you may know Gelatos are one of my must haves.

Tando Christmas!

I made this card for my fellow Demented Cat, Cheryl.
I made the background using Gelatos, blending with a dampened finger.
Santa and his reindeer are by Tando. I triple heat embossed them along with the London scene below which is also by Tando.
I glued the two Tando pieces onto my background and added to a blank card. Simple easy steps but with an end result that I loved as did Cheryl!

8th October Scrap Thursday Part 19

This is the nineteenth scrapbook page for my new weekly post Scrap Thursday. I will try and bring new ideas and techniques and revisit old favourites too. If you have any suggestions or requests just let me know and I will do my best to accommodate these.
I usually work in a 12" x 12" format as this allows me more space to experiment and get arty!
Yep more Gelato play! This layout features circles rather than straight lines like last week.
The steps are the same as last week, so start with a surface that you have covered with Gesso.
I randomly added circles, some overlapping.
Using a baby wipe I smoothed the circles and then added the white.
I filled the circles.

And kept building, I introduced brown to give a little contrast.
Using a Dot Dabber, I added dots here and there.
I used Grunge Paste by PaperArtsy and a mask to add some texture.
This is a really quick and easy way to produce a unique background, hope you like it.

1st October Scrap Thursday Part 18

This is the eighteenth scrapbook page for my new weekly post Scrap Thursday. I will try and bring new ideas and techniques and revisit old favourites too. If you have any suggestions or requests just let me know and I will do my best to accommodate these.
I usually work in a 12" x 12" format as this allows me more space to experiment and get arty!
This week I have been playing with my Gelatos again. The layout above shows my son in the cockpit of an Airbus A321, his first job as a Commercial Airline Pilot (Very Proud Mummy badge being worn here!)
To start with I covered a 12 x 12 piece of smooth white Bazzill with Gesso.
Then I randomly added stripes of Gelatos, I am using three contrasting colours plus white for this layout.
Using a baby wipe, gently smooth over each line of colour.
I always do my vertical lines first and then my horizontal.
I have found that I use a lot of white so have bought the Double Scoop size Gelato, its well worth the investment.
The white softens and slightly mutes the strong colours.
I added texture with Grunge Paste from PaperArtsy.
I used a Dylusion mask.
To make my own border I used a Fude Ball pen and a Big Brush pen.
I used my border with Washi Tape and a die cut.
I found this fabulous 'Pilot' die cut at Stamparama and couldn't resist it!
My title hides a journal flap so that I can add more personal details without everyone seeing.
As well as the Destiny Idea-ology tag being appropriate to the layout it also helped weigh down the flap. The tag was rubbed over with Treasure Gold.
Tim Holtz has got some great rub ons which I have added randomly to odd spaces.
For privacy I have covered my sons face, this is something I do with children and anyone else who might not want their face featured on the internet, Sadly some unauthorised people will 'lift' images and use as their own, so to try and protect mine this is what I tend to do.
Hope you like the finished result.

CAT

This journal page is inspired by the movie Breakfast at Tiffany's. The background I made by smudging Gelatos before using black Gesso to add textured marks and some stenciling. I mixed the remains of the black Gesso with white Gesso and added some highlights. The cat images are peel offs which I very rarely use but they were perrrfect (sorry!) for this page. I used some Washi tape for the image of Audrey Hepburn to lean on and completed the page making a big sparkly diamond with a quote from the movie on it.

11th June Scrap Thursday Part 3

This is the third scrapbook page for my new weekly post Scrap Thursday. I will try and bring new ideas and techniques and revisit old favourites too. If you have any suggestions or requests just let me know and I will do my best to accommodate these.
My aim is to list the products I have used with links to retailers (preferably independent stores) and if I find any bargains I will let you know!
I usually work in a 12" x 12" format as this allows me more space to experiment and get arty!
This is one of my most favourite scrapbook layouts. To create this I used the following: Faber Castelle Gelatos, Faber Castelle Big Brush Pens, Stamps by Paper Artsy, smooth white Bazzill.

I made the background by crayoning on the Gelatos and using a baby wipe I blended the colours together. Images that I wanted in the background I then stamped directly onto the card and used a pale colour to stamp them with.
You can see above that the red flower has been stamped directly onto the background but stronger colours have been used so that they stand out a bit more than than the muted images of the background ones. The orange flower has been stamped and cut out of additional card and added as this is at the foreground of the layout. This effect can also be seen in the image below.
Adding something simple like the chain on the bird house gives a bit of dimension to your layout.
Never be afraid to experiment and use bold colours where you might not expect them (Neil the snail is a good example)
I loved making this layout and hope that you take some inspiration from it too.
