11th June Scrap Thursday Part 3

This is the third scrapbook page for my new weekly post Scrap Thursday. I will try and bring new ideas and techniques and revisit old favourites too. If you have any suggestions or requests just let me know and I will do my best to accommodate these.
My aim is to list the products I have used with links to retailers (preferably independent stores) and if I find any bargains I will let you know!
I usually work in a 12" x 12" format as this allows me more space to experiment and get arty!
This is one of my most favourite scrapbook layouts. To create this I used the following: Faber Castelle Gelatos, Faber Castelle Big Brush Pens, Stamps by Paper Artsy, smooth white Bazzill.

I made the background by crayoning on the Gelatos and using a baby wipe I blended the colours together. Images that I wanted in the background I then stamped directly onto the card and used a pale colour to stamp them with.
You can see above that the red flower has been stamped directly onto the background but stronger colours have been used so that they stand out a bit more than than the muted images of the background ones. The orange flower has been stamped and cut out of additional card and added as this is at the foreground of the layout. This effect can also be seen in the image below.
Adding something simple like the chain on the bird house gives a bit of dimension to your layout.
Never be afraid to experiment and use bold colours where you might not expect them (Neil the snail is a good example)
I loved making this layout and hope that you take some inspiration from it too.

Make you own....

Here is a simple way to add matching details to your scrapbook pages.
You can always buy strips of patterned card/paper when purchasing 12 x 12 scrapbook papers but when you make your own papers to find these matching your background is almost impossible.
The page above has been randomly sprayed using Dylusions sprays.
To make a matching border I used Faber Castelle Big Brush pens which are great used as a normal pen but also great to water down to use as a wash.
Cut a 12" strip of smooth card and add the wash of your choice.
Using a ruler draw a straight line to initially work to, this stops patterns sloping up or down!
I used a POSCA pen to draw my design on, don't worry if your design is not perfectly symmetrical or spaced out, after all this is handmade and as in nature that means not always 'perfect'
Continue adding your design.
Once you have finished your design cut it to shape if necessary.
This is now ready to use and matches your background beautifully.
Making your own embellishments to match too is also fun, here I have stamped on self adhesive canvas and used the Big Brush Pens to colour match.
You now have tailor made original add ons for your pages. If you know what colours you intend to use in future pages you could make some in advance so they are dry and ready to use when required.

May Challenge - The Craft Garden

You can find details of this months challenge at the Here
When someone says 'Yorkshire' to me I think of two things; Emmerdale and green. I am a huge fan of Le Tour but as I live near Cambridge that is my association with Le Tour (so I guess it depends on where you live! It was an amazing sight to watch all those bikes come whizzing through a quiet little Cambridgeshire village) Anyway Emmerdale and green and the wellie brigade so it was inevitable that my project was going to be green! I had been given a paperweight that required you to add something decorative to it, the display one showed a photograph but I thought Borrrinnggg (as Judge Rinder would say) so I set about making something green with a nature theme. The words are a stamp from Darcy at PaperArtsy and the leaves are from Jofy. I made the background using Gelatos, a mask (also from PaperArtsy) and baby wipes.
Plain paper weight
 Gelato background
Place mask onto background and using a baby wipe, wipe away the Gelatos through the mask, take care not to scrub.
Carefully remove mask and repeat to create the desire effect.
This mask is by Emma at PaperArtsy.
I added stamped leaves at this point to add to the 'nature' feel. I used Stazon to stamp with.
Using Big Brush pens I coloured in a few leaves.
 I added a stamped saying.
Finally I put the picture in place.

Ceramic Photo Frame

I made this photo frame taking my inspiration from the stamp below designed by Darcy of PaperArtsy.
The card below has a background of embossed card which I painted and then added a light rubbing of gilding wax on the high points. The flowers are coloured using Big Brush pens.

Double Journal Page

I was experimenting with joining shape and colour with these pages. The size of the journal is the large Dylusions one so it gave me lots of scope to work with. I used all sorts on these pages eg Gelatos, stamps, masks, paint, Big Brush Pens and POSCA pens. I am happy with result, in fact it turned out better than I thought it would.
So my next challenge will be to have a go at a mini journal, I know Kate Crane has some stunning pages in hers so I will be off to have a quick look at her blog in the near future.
I hope you have gained some inspiration from my pages.

More Blooms!

More art journal flowers, bigger blooms over two pages.
