This layout I made using Pan Pastels. It was the first time I had used them and I have to say I am really impressed. They are great for covering large areas such as a 12 x 12 paper and also produce a very smooth finish which make a great surface for stamping and writing on.
I certainly would recommended you give them a go, trouble is once you start you kinda get hooked!
